Power Distribution And Conversion: The 10303/1/1 module functions principally as a Power Distribution Module (PSD). In those systems where redundant central units and non-redundant I/O coexist, it accepts the output from the redundant central section Power Supply Unit (PSU) and assembles it into a single 5 VDC power supply for the non-redundant I/O section that is linked with the system. It ensures that the I/O components are supplied with a steady and recurring power supply, a necessity for the functioning of the entire system.
ensures that voltage is current shared across the length of the system → current is drawn evenly from the input of the system over input voltage may drop in the I/O group in current heavy systems. This avoids any voltage fluctuations that would degrade system performance and reliability life, such that the power supply gets loaded uniformly throughout its length. Additionally, the 5 VDC power supply range is very tight inside the margin (±5%) therefore PSD module must be placed close to the PSU module to avoid voltage drop in the wire. The minimum cable size recommended is 2.5 mm² (AWG 14).
Safety and Maintenance: PSD module replacement is possible only in a PSU de-energized position. This is a safe process preventing electric risks in the replacing and storing systems.
